One of the most amazing colors in the natural world! These neon-sky blue earrings are made from the Blue Morpho Menelaus Butterfly, one of the largest and most brilliantly colored butterflies on earth. Found in South America's tropical rain forests, it's wing undersides are a soft brown with "eye spots" for camouflage.

All of the butterflies used in this jewelry are farm-raised, mainly in South America by small farms dedicated to conservation. For every small butterfly farm that makes a living, less Amazon rain forest is cut down. Butterfly farming practices protect the wild butterfly population—the alternative to butterfly farming is netting wild butterflies. These farms are also suppliers to the US based butterfly houses where guests go to interact with live butterflies. Majority of tropical butterflies have a lifespan of less than 3 weeks. In the farming process, they live out their entire life-cycle protected from predators, as the farmers need to collect the eggs for their live exhibit customers.
