Side Lite Kaleidoscope
Exquisitely cased in Sapele Pommele wood with a multi wood inlay, this large, hand held kaleidoscope is a prime example of what is technically called an "oil scope"
Instead of a traditional revolving wheel with glass fragments or sliced agates, this scope has an assortment of objects; dichroic glass etc, in clear oil. The light enters through the sides of one end of the scope.
As you rotate the scope, you will notice an ethereal, floating motion with the most brilliant, almost physcadelic color explosion; it's as if electric lights were inside!
Pommele is the French term for dappled and it is especially apt for describing highly figured woods like sapele, makore and bubinga with a "quilted " appearance.
Pommele wood scope shown on left; also available in Maple, Walnut Burl, Cherry and Bubinga.
Black holder included
