Dramatic black and blue-green Peacock Swallowtail Butterfly encased in lightweight, crystal clear resin. Ethically sourced.
Found, in its natural habitat, only on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, a remarkable feature of this butterfly's wing is that it contains rows of very small concave surfaces that reflect light in many ways. The center of the concave surface reflects a yellow-green light and the edges reflect blue light.
All of the butterflies used in this jewelry are farm-raised, mainly in South America by small farms dedicated to conservation. For every small butterfly farm that makes a living, less Amazon rain forest is cut down. Butterfly farming practices protect the wild butterfly population—the alternative to butterfly farming is netting wild butterflies. These farms are also suppliers to the US-based butterfly houses where guests go to interact with live butterflies. The majority of tropical butterflies have a lifespan of fewer than 3 weeks. In the farming process, they live out their entire life-cycle protected from predators, as the farmers need to collect the eggs for their live exhibit customers. Handcrafted by Petal Connection in California.
Dimensions: Since two butterflies are alike, no pair of earrings are exactly alike either. Product may vary slightly in color and size.
