With it's stunning orange, black, gold and green colors, the Sunset Moth is gorgeous! From the island of Madagascar, the sunset moth is a day-flying moth of the family Uraniidae. One of the most impressive insects in the world. It is featured in most coffee table books on Lepidoptera (insects) and is much sought after by collectors.

All of the butterflies used in this jewelry are farm-raised, mainly in South America by small farms dedicated to conservation. For every small butterfly farm that makes a living, less Amazon rain forest is cut down. Butterfly farming practices protect the wild butterfly population—the alternative to butterfly farming is netting wild butterflies. These farms are also suppliers to the US based butterfly houses where guests go to interact with live butterflies. Majority of tropical butterflies have a lifespan of less than 3 weeks. In the farming process, they live out their entire life-cycle protected from predators, as the farmers need to collect the eggs for their live exhibit customers.
