Hicks Art Pottery

Founded in 1996, Kevin Hicks is dedicated to the principles of the American Arts and Crafts movement. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted, starting with wheel-throwing to shape the clay, followed by hand-sculpting and detailed carving. This ensures every piece is unique and showcases the artist's touch. The pottery is then glazed using in-house formulations that enhance the natural beauty of the clay and designs.

The studio avoids modern technologies like slip-casting and ram pressing, which can remove the personal touch from the work. Instead, traditional techniques are embraced to highlight craftsmanship and creativity. Collaboration is key, with a team of artists contributing to each piece, fostering innovation and ensuring adherence to the movement's emphasis on community and shared artistic vision.

Nature plays a significant role in the designs, with botanical themes such as poppies, roses, irises, and oak leaves, as well as animals like bats, ravens, and foxes. These elements bring the beauty of the outdoors into each piece, creating a harmonious blend of art and nature.

Kevin Hicks Art Pottery pieces are highly collectible. Designs in the Studio Collection are limited to a maximum of 500 pieces, with seasonal and special editions created in even more limited numbers. Each piece is well-marked with shop marks, including the year of creation and the initials of the potter, sculptor, and glazer. This tradition of marking ensures authenticity and enhances collectibility.

By adhering to these principles, Kevin Hicks Art Pottery honors the legacy of the American Arts and Crafts movement, bringing its timeless beauty and philosophy into the modern era.
